Kani Math is an independent studio building a modern home for soroban-based mental arithmetic — the abacus method that has trained tens of millions of learners worldwide. We rebuilt it for phones, tablets, and the browser in English and Arabic for families and centers everywhere, and we take the curriculum seriously.
We started Kani because the abacus method works — but the tools around it had not kept up with the devices kids actually use. Worksheets, PDFs, and paper abacuses are fine; a galaxy-themed app that kids open on their own is better. Every level, lesson, drill, and avatar in Kani was designed around the core question: would a nine-year-old actually come back to this tomorrow?
Mental arithmetic is not a trick. It is a trained habit of visualizing numbers on an abacus, and it compounds quietly for years — in focus, memory, and confidence. We believe the method should be bilingual by default (English and Arabic, with full RTL), honest about what it takes (regular practice, not miracles), and fair to families (one subscription, no upsells, cancel anytime).
