A times table answered from memory is a math fact; multiplied digit by digit on the soroban it becomes a procedure that scales to 34 × 7 and beyond. Both matter: recall gives speed on the small tables, method carries you past where memory stops.
The samples below are two-digit-by-one-digit sets — the shape where tables and technique meet. Check yourself against the answers, time yourself with any clock, and note which tables drag: those are the ones to drill in isolation.
How to practise it

2Time yourself with a phone clock: a clean set under two minutes is solid.
3Note which tables slow you down — usually 6s, 7s and 8s — and repeat those first.

Questions
Which tables should we practice first?
2s, 5s and 10s come almost free; 3s and 4s next; 6s, 7s and 8s are where speed is won. Practicing the hard tables in isolation beats running 1-to-12 sweeps every time.
Memorize the tables or learn the abacus method?
Both, in that order. Recall up to 9 × 9 makes every method faster; the soroban procedure then extends multiplication to numbers no one memorizes. On the ladder, that procedure starts at Higher A — Level 7 of 9.
